Better late than never, right?

I almost forgot to post this. Sorry.

Week 6
We are so close! WooHoo!!

Each daily item is worth 1 point.
You can do these daily calendar items on any day that works for your schedule.

Monday – Clean a window or mirror that needs a good makeover!

Tuesday – Read a talk from April Conference and journal your feelings on what you read.

Wednesday – Find something in your kitchen to clean. Pantry, fridge (under or inside)
under/inside the stove, microwave, fronts of cupboards!

Thursday – Pick one thing you would like to improve on and write it down. If it has to do with a food habit and you improve on that habit for 1 week (like having no pop for one week) then give your self an extra 5 points.

Friday – Grill something healthy for dinner. Maybe invite some neighbors over to enjoy it with you.

Saturday – Go to the park and play. Get on the swings and show your kids
you know how to have fun!

Sunday – Rent the movie Fireproof and watch it with your spouse. If you've already seen Fireproof, get the movie 'Facing the Giants'. Your whole family would love either of these movies. Give yourself an extra 10 points for this calendar item.

***Plan a date with your husband this week and you can have a free night (no minus points for the date).
Take a minute and write down a goal you'd like to accomplish for the last 3 weeks
of Great in 8. You can give yourself 5 extra points this week if you write it down and put it up somewhere you will see it. You get 15 extra points at the end of the 8 weeks if you accomplish your goal! Good luck!

And the winners are...

Our winners for Week 5 are...

Kiersten and Amy with 822 points. A close 2nd place were Jodie and Celeste with 820 points!

That could make the end results a little fun!!!

We're getting close to the end. Are you going to finish strong? What are your excuses for not doing what you know you should be doing? Make a list of them and through them in the garbage. You don't deserve those excuses!!!

I've been catching myself lately saying things that aren't helping me out in the realm of things. I catch myself saying things like, "I hate how fat my hips and thighs are", I wish my arms weren't so flabby", "It takes forever to lose as much as I want to lose", "I'm FAT!!!"

I'm sure that none of you ever say things like that, right? Watch what you say to yourself. I've had to write on my bathroom mirror different positive sayings for me to run through my brain so that I won't repeat all of those negative thoughts. The more I repeat the positive thoughts, the more I start to believe those thoughts and avoid thinking the negative ones. It wouldn't hurt for us all to give this a shot for the next 2 1/2 weeks. It wouldn't hurt anyone. They're just words. Or are they? Try it for the next few weeks and see how it turns out for you.

You are all amazing! Keep going. You'll improve if you just stick to it.

Food for Thought

I get an weekly email from LDS Living and there was an very good article they had with the email. If you have a minute, it's a good little read. I know that we are working hard to improve ourselves and if you are anything like me, you want everyone else around you to change and get better too. The problem is, we can't change anyone but ourselves. When our attitudes change and the way we think change, others will catch on to our way of thinking. So, I thought I'd share this little article with you. Hope you enjoy it!

http://www.ldslivingmagazine.com/articles/show/1920

Hope all of you are hanging in there! I've heard from a handful of you and you are doing great. You might not be getting the top points but you are improving. Even if it's only a little bit! I'm so proud of you for putting forth the effort. Whether it's great of small! You are TERRIFIC!!

Week 5 Calendar

Week 5
You're looking GREAT!

Each daily item is worth 1 point.
You can do these daily calendar items on any day that works for your schedule.

Monday – What's your favorite scripture? Email me your favorite or a couple of your favorite scripture verses.

Tuesday – Make a phone call to a friend you haven't talked to in awhile.

Wednesday – Write down 10 things you love and admire about your husband. Share those things with him in a creative way. (Extra 2 points if you write
down more than 25 things)

Thursday – Sit and meditate about how beautiful you are for 5 minutes.
Lock yourself in a closet if necessary!

Friday – It helps you feel better sometimes to have a clean vehicle. Go wash your vehicle and vacuum it out. (You might just get a better view of your future!)

Saturday – Make a meal during the day special for everyone in your family- not just your spouse. (Candles, fancy place settings, etc.)

Sunday – Write a letter/card to someone you live close to. Any type of letter would be ok. Thank you, get better, congrats, thinking of you. Make sure you mail it on Monday!

***For extra points this week: If you emailed you points before 8 PM on Monday, you get an extra 5 points for week 5. Give yourself an extra 2 points each day for eating a green salad with dinner (that's 2 points with each dinner- total of 14 EXTRA points!)

For some really good extra points, read one of the books that are listed on the blog. Give yourself an extra 20 points for any of the books you read. If you read Love & Respect, you can have 30 points. If your spouse reads any of the books along with you, you get an extra 10 points for the books he reads.

Week 3 & 4 Winners

OK! I'm not doing so good lately! I didn't post the winners from last week. I won't even give you my excuses for not posting.

Week 3 Winners were...

Amy & Brooke with 894!
They pretty much kick butt!

Week 4 Winners are...
Jodie & Celeste with 777 points.

I noticed that everyone had lower points this past week! It must be that crazy weather we dealt with. I think I'm going to have to start getting tough on everyone. This slacking on our Great in 8 just will not do! Tighten up your belts and lets see if we can all get over 390 points. Maybe we should all shoot for 400 points or higher! For those that don't get over the 400 points, we'll take points away. If you get over 400 points, we'll add bonus points. Maybe I won't be that tough but hey, you never know what I'll do. It is Spring and the sun is shining. No excuses to not be out running around with your kids, take a jog or just take a walk and soak up some sun. If you're tempted to eat that candy bar or Diet pop, DON'T!!! Go outside and do something fun. Plant something, wash your vehicle, go to a nursery and look at all the flowers/trees. Just get out and live your life. Don't sit around your house wishing you could be 10 lbs skinnier. It ain't going to happen sweetie! Even if you don't feel like exercising, do it anyway! We want to be GREAT and we only have 3 1/2 weeks left to make ourselves GREAT!!!! That isn't very long if you think about it. Make the decision and get serious! Don't deprive yourself. Just don't overindulge in the good things in life.

Ok, that's good for now. I'll probably email you soon and make sure you're out and about and doing what you are suppose to do! If you're already doing what you should do, get on the phone and visit with someone else that's doing this. They might need some motivation!

Calendar for Week 4

We're almost to the halfway point!
Keep going ladies!!!!

Each daily item is worth 1 point.
You can do these daily calendar items on any day that works for your schedule.

Monday – Teach your kids a new song (maybe one from when you where younger). Make up some fun actions to do with it.

Tuesday – Make a bouquet of flowers and give them to somebody. Enlist
the help of your kids.

Wednesday – Find a new recipe to use for your dinner tonight.
Experiment with some new ingredients. Try grilling your dinner tonight.

Thursday – Go for a walk with your kids or play an outside game with your kids (two square, jump rope, tetherball).

Friday – Read D&C 89. Notice what the blessings are that are given in verses 18-21. It should make you smile all day long!

Saturday – Give 10 compliments away today. Give yourself an extra 2 points if
you give more than 20 compliments and they aren't all to the
same person.

Sunday – Write in your journal any thoughts about the past 4 weeks. You've made it half way and you are feeling sooooo good.

***
Take time each day to fill out your tracking sheet. You'll be more successful if you are
keeping track daily and you'll be more aware of where you need to improve.

InSAniTy

The definition:

Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

So, if you want big results, do something different in a big way! If you want simple, smaller results, just do a little bit something different!

YOU DECIDE!!! (Just thought I'd give you a bit of motivation! I know I have to remind myself daily of this. I want BIG results and so I better get going and do a whole bunch of things different).

PS- This might be a good thing to put up around your house. It goes for all areas of your life.

Are you up for a challenge?

Hey Pretty Ladies-

I had an idea that I thought would be fun to do with all of you amazing people. This challenge will be available to anyone that wants to do it. If you have a sister, neighbor, mom- anyone you think would be interested, they are welcome to join with us.

All you will need for this challenge is a pedometer and $1 dollar. (The dollar is just to commit yourself to it. There will be a reward for the winner at the end. Keep reading!)

Here’s the scoop. For 2 weeks we will track how many steps we take each day. We will record them (actually, email them to me and I’ll post them on the blog each morning) and the gal with the most points at the end of the challenge gets to go get a pedicure!! After all of the steps we take, we’ll need a good pedicure.

There are a few things though. You can’t count the steps taken while you are exercising. Those are steps you should be taking anyway (and some of you are die hards and you go run 3 miles everyday.) I thought it would be fun to see how many steps we take each day outside of exercising. Do you think you can get 10,000 steps in during 1 day? How about 12,000 or 15,000? That might mean walking to go get your child from school. Getting the mail yourself (and not sending your child to get it). No sitting in front of the computer or tv all day. If you really want to read, do it while in bed after the kids have gone to sleep. Your kids would love to have you out playing with them instead of inside all day long. You’d be surprised how many steps you take while cleaning your house. (I tracked my steps one day while cleaning and was so surprised!!)

So, if you are up for this challenge, email me ASAP and get yourself a pedometer. You can get your $1 to me before Monday morning and that will get you on the challenge list.

I’m thinking this could be something good for some of you! Hope to hear from all of you soon.

Week 2 WINNER

Wow, you ladies are unbelievable!!!!! Our winners for week 2 are:

Amy and Brooke with 888. (They both got 444 points. The most possible for week 2. We have work to do ladies. They are on fire!!!)

2nd place was Susan and Marisa with 852 points. They each had 426 points.

Now we all know what we need to shoot for for this week. We will be doing a little something extra with next weeks points. Just a little bit of incentive for next week. More info to come later this week. Just get really good at tracking your points and getting good at writing your goals down. That just might help with your points next week!

That's about it for today. I'd love to hear how all of you are doing and how things are going for you and your team mate. For those that didn't email me your points, get with it! You don't want me coming to your house. I'll make you put your running shoes on and run with me. Like for 5 miles!!! :-) I love all of you and think the world of all of you!

Conference Cakes

This is a family tradition that we do for each General Conference. It's the only time of the year that we make these. My mom used to do this every year and now I make them for my family. My kids are excited all morning long as they can smell them baking during the morning session.

3 cups Milk
1 cup Sugar
2 pkg. Yeast (4 Tlbs yeast)
3 Eggs
1 tsp Salt
1 cup Butter/Marg.
8-10 cups Flour

Mix all ingredients until dough is sticky.

Let dough rise until double in size. Roll dough out on flat surface and cut into 3x5 squares. Place on greased pan. Let rise on pan. I poke my finger in the middle of each one and make an indent for the 'belly buttons'. Inside each belly button I put a little brown sugar and melted butter.

Bake at 375 for 10 minutes.

Our family has these every conference Sunday. We whip up real whipping cream and dip the Conference Cakes in the whipping cream and drink Chocolate Milk with them. Not healthy at all so maybe invite some neighbors over to help you eat them. (Thank goodness for a free day!)

Cracked Wheat

I just tried something pretty yummy! I love hot cereal and lately I've been eating a lot of Cracked Wheat. It's so de-lish!! I just have to have some sugar on it though and I'm trying hard to cut out as much sugar as possible. So, I decided to put some cinnamon on it and then for sweetness I added a touch of honey! It was heaven! I now would love to eat it for lunch and dinner too. (Oh, it also keeps me full for the morning. No craving the junk food.)

I get the Cracked wheat at Winco in the bulk section. You'll have to try it sometime. If you have some favorite breakfast foods, share them with the rest of us! Don't keep secrets.

I stand corrected

Our new winners for week are:

Amy and Brooke with 874 points. They each had 437 points for the week! You guys kick butt!! You'll have to share your secrets with us. Congratulations you two!

Drum Roll Pease

I'm going to announce the winner (with points) for this week. I am missing one persons points and that might change the winner for this week! So, for today our winners are......

Susan and Marisa! They had 843 points!!!
Celeste and Jodie had 832 points!!

Congratulations ladies! That's called committment. It helps to do all of the items each day. You might not get all of your points for good food but if you don't have minus points and most of your points come from exercising, you'll get a pretty high score. Missing just a prayer here or there and not reading scriptures adds up too. So, work hard to stay focused on all areas of your life. Make living better a priority and this will be a close competition!!!

If you are traveling at all, you can still snack. Just don't buy the bag of Cheetos! Munch almonds, popcorn, carrots, cheese sticks, granola. Have a Crystal Light drink. I know a few of you were traveling last week and that might have hurt your score some. No worries. Work hard this week to focus on your goal!! (You wrote your goal down, right? It's an extra 5 points if you have your goal put up around your house. So, get on it!!)

Kind of a cool thing. I've had more than half of you email me and tell me that you lost at least 3 pounds or more this week! You are so amazing! That makes me excited to see how many pounds total we'll lose for the whole 8 weeks. We should have a group goal for points scored and pounds/inches lost. If you have suggestions on a group goal, let me know. We'll post the goal on here next Monday. We'll set the standard and those that choose to do it another time will know what they need to do to get better!

Keep it up! Take it one day at a time and you'll be one healthy women!

Winner for week 1 (almost)

So, I'm waiting for a few more emails so I can let you know who are winners are for this week! We have so many of you that have lost at least 3 lbs this week! You need to share what you think it was that helped you lose the weight.
Check back tomorrow for the winners.

I also wanted to tell you that I'm reading the book Attitude is Everything and it has so many great quotes. You could copy all of them out of the book and put them all over the house! Your kids would benefit from that also. So, if you have some time for reading, this would be a great book to start with. I might have some extra copies if you'd like to borrow one. It wouldn't take long to read it.

I just love hearing from all of you about how dedicated you are! Keep up the hard work and know that you are amazing!!!

Stuffed Pork Chops

Prep 15 min Cook 20 min Serves 4
1 (10 oz) pkg frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
2 Tbsp golden raisins
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 (1/4 lb each) boneless center-cut pork chops
1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 tsp balsamic vinegar

1. To make the filling, mix the spinach, raisins, garlic, 1/2 tsp of the salt, and 1/4 tsp of the pepper in a medium bowl.

2. Insert a small knife into one side of each pork chop and cut until a pocket has opened. Fill each pocket with 1/2 cup of the filling. Secure the openings with toothpicks.

3. Sprinkle the chops evenly with the remaining 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Heat a large heavy skillet (preferrably cast-iron) over high heat until very hot, about 2 minutes. Add the chops and cook until browned, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer the chops to a large plate; cover loosely with foil and keep warm.

4. To make the sauce, add the broth to the skillet and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, scraping up the browned bits with a wooden spoon, until the mixture is reduced by one half, about 3 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the balsamic vinegar. Pour the sauce evenly over the pork. Enjoy!

Thanks Amy!
